Community Commitment

For our founder, Jim Mandrin, business accomplishments are not enough. He's a smart businessman and one of the most successful builder/developers in the region. But Jim has other interests that have made him a role model for the rest of us. He is known as a tireless philanthropist and humanitarian, aiding campaigns to improve health and medical care, bereavement and quality of life services, education, the arts and historic foundations. His direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and his generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles in our community.

Jim's generous contributions include a lead donation to Hospice of the Chesapeake's "Strengthening the Circle of Care" capital campaign in 2003 and another gift to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation. He supports a long list of other charities including

  • Legacy Annapolis Campaign
  • Anne Arundel County Police Foundation
  • Archdiocese of Baltimore
  • Maryland Special Olympics
  • St. Mary's Church of Annapolis
  • The Ronald McDonald House
  • YMCA

Mr. Mandrin was selected as the 2003 Philanthropist of the Year by the Community Foundation of the Chesapeake. Hillard Donner, who supported the nomination of the Mandrins for this award, says, "I can think of few other people in the county who so epitomize the essence of philanthropy and its benefits to the community than Jim. He is a wonderful man who radiates sincerity, caring and honesty. He is a man of action and high standards who cares about the world and believes in giving back to the community." Mr. Mandrin was also nominated for the Maryland Business Philanthropy Award and was presented the 2005 Beacon of Hope award by Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Jim serves as a Trustee of Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation and is a board member of the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation. Mandrin Homes has built the Hospice new home in the Harwood area of Anne Arundel County. Our staff has actively solicited area contractors and suppliers to provide labor and materials, further reducing the cost of construction.

Jim's generous heart beats loud and clear and his unselfish actions reach out to many and is echoed in his company and it's employees. Mandrin Homes was the recipient of the 2003 Small Business Philanthropy Award presented by Ketchum, The Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal. Both Jim and our president, Ted Kennedy, through their generosity and support of many projects, have set an impeccable standard for the rest of us. Mandrin Homes is a company of people who strive to follow their example.

"At Mandrin Homes, supporting local charities and community efforts is not just a personal choice for Jim Mandrin – it’s a corporate philosophy. Rarely will you see a firm give back more to the community than Mandrin Homes. In fact, among their builder colleagues, Mandrin Homes has become the “gold standard” for charitable and community giving; a reputation that’s been hard earned in this current real estate downturn."
