What Green Home Building Means
Beginning with the homes of North Shore Landing and every community forward, Mandrin Homes houses will be NAHB Green Certified at no additional cost to you, the buyer. This means that we will hold to a standard of excellence in the design and development of the site to minimize environmental impact, protect and restore the natural features of the land, manage storm water and minimize environmental intrusion during construction as verified by a licensed inspector.
NAHB Green Building Guidelines provide three levels of green building certification. They are classified as Bronze, Silver and Gold. Mandrin Homes is offering the Bronze level of certification to every home we build at no additional cost to the buyer. If a homebuyer would like to option Silver or Gold, we can make that happen. The base standard of efficiency is determined by the current building code. The green certification levels are variations on the code:
- Bronze Level is the minimum green standard. To achieve this level, the house must be meeting the guiding principals of resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, home owner education and global impact. If the minimum standards are met and verified by a third party then the house will be certified green at the bronze level.
- Silver Level is the next level. All of the items mentioned above are included. A stronger emphasis on efficiency is required. Efficiency in your heating and air conditioning is the largest factor in this level.
- Gold Level is the highest level. This level incorporates the previous levels entirely while adding the highest achievable standards for resource conservation, efficiency and indoor environmental quality.
Mandrin Homes has streamlined option packages that will achieve the silver and gold level with little required on the part of our customer. However, each house is unique and each buyer can make and modify choices to best suit their own needs and goals.
